Every place, and every person, has a history. History should be embraced for it holds the key to every future. Know your history.
Haverhill was once called the “Queen Slipper City” due to its prominent shoe manufacturing industry up until the early 1900’s. The decline of manufacturing and devastating fires propelled the decline of Haverhill’s infrastructure and local economy but, the future is bright. Now, as Haverhill works to revitalize many of the old mills in the city, they are embracing their shoe manufacturing legacy with pieces of unique art around the downtown area. Seeing history being recognized and preserved in the midst of change is reassuring and pleasing. History repeats itself.
Haverhill was once a booming city that held great prominence in the state and the country. Times have changed and so has Haverhill but, there are prosperous days ahead for Haverhill. The downtown is booming with businesses, living spaces, eateries, and now a new campus for UMass Lowell. It is all very exciting to see. Like I said, history repeats itself.
