One morning while photographing the morning liftoff we were treated to a very epic nature scene.
The pond was frozen with a thin layer of ice so, the sandhill cranes and the snow geese were a bit slower in lifting off. A couple of snow geese had gotten frozen into the pond and could not lift off when all the others departed. Suddenly on the shore there was a coyote who was trying very hard to figure out a way to get out on the ice for a couple easy meals. He was then joined by two other coyotes. Soon the flailing of one goose caught the attention of a raven who descended upon him for his easy meal. All the activity then caught the attention of the most majestic of predators – a mature bald eagle.
He flew over the scene a couple of times, quickly scaring off the raven and the coyotes but, he never landed for his easy meals. But, his stealth soaring was brilliant to see and photograph.
