I love being a photographer. Every adventure, no matter how near or far, inspires me to explore and discover more about the world I live in. My desire to learn fuels my even greater need to create images that reflect how I feel about what I see. The photographic process gives me so much more than just pretty photos. I am very fortunate.
I am consumed, daily, with the desire to make photographs that resonate with detail, feeling, and beauty. The process of photography, for me, goes well beyond just pressing the shutter button and taking a picture. If I am not in the field taking photos, I am often reading about or thinking about photography. Growing as a photographer means investing time learning about my subjects and, inevitably, my self. My continued growth as a photographer requires having a more open, more compassionate, and more caring heart. I am more than happy to accept all of those challenges. I can only get better as both a photographer and as a person.
Fill your camera bag with the best tools you can afford but, make sure you leave plenty of room for the most important tools: time, commitment, and passion. Yes, beautiful scenery and pretty photos will happen for all of us at times but, time well spent immersed in the photographic process will produce the best results in our images and ourselves.
