I love my Mom… very much. I wish I was more like her. She is the kindest, most gentle, considerate, honest, hard working, generous, compassionate, creative, selfless, and loyal person I have ever met. She has been an amazing mother to me and my two beautiful sisters for 54 years. Not once in that time did she ever waver or shy away from her role as a parent, nurturer, provider, or caregiver.
I was so spoiled growing up. Everything in our house was hand made by my mother. I never realized how good we had it. I just assumed every Mom did what she did. I took for granted the many things that came from her time, creativity, and practicality. Our mittens, scarves, and hats were all home made by Mom. Our quilts were home made by Mom. Our clothes were hemmed, stitched, and repaired by my Mom. She made all of my sister’s dresses for dance recitals, proms, and other things. We had hooked rugs in our rooms all made by my Mom. She made curtains and table clothes and pillow cases. Our pantry was full of Mason Jars from the hours Mom spent canning things we grew in the yard. Year round we had vegetables, fruits, pickles, and sauces. She baked and cooked for us every day. Amazingly she still does many of these things for us. It is staggering to know the time and effort that went into everything she did, and does, for us.
Yes, I was spoiled rotten growing up and I could not be happier about it. I understand, now, the genuine value of things that come from the heart, not the store. I owe so much to my Mom and no words could ever express the depth of my appreciation and admiration for the woman, person, and mother she is. Happy Mothers Day to my Mom!
