There is a difference between taking a photo and creating an image. Many images are well exposed, well composed, and well executed but, too often they fall into the category of a well done documentary photo. I am just as guilty of this as anyone else. The key to a powerful image is taking the time explore and gain a feel for your subject. The emotional part of photography has no user’s manual. Creating comes from within.
The rocky shore beneath Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is unique and distinctive. The lighthouse alone is very nice but, it is the rock formations that define the setting. The lines, textures, and details of the rocks make for wonderful compositions that are laid out nicely and fairly easily. You just have to walk out on the rocks and look back at the lighthouse. But, as always, there is so much more to see if you simply take the time to move around and look past the obvious. Move your feet. Explore the possibilities. Be bold in your creativity. Be bold in yourself.
Photography is a powerful form of expression. Images that we create should have a profound effect on ourselves as the creators. Hopefully those same images evoke a similar effect in our audience but, first and foremost, creating is about personal expression. Make yourself happy and others will follow.
